Definition of opening sequence
The opening sequence of a film ticks many boxes, it helps to establish time and place usually with establishing shots and sometimes with narrative devices such as 'voice over'. An opening sequence introduces the characters and genre of the film, it sets up enigmas to keep the audience 'hooked' so they watch the rest of the film.
